Bhasmas are unique metal and mineral preparations of ayurveda. They known in Indian subcontinent for its effectiveness in various chronic ailements in its ash form at small doses. It is assumed that these medicines have superior level of efficacy in comparision to other ayurvedic dosage forms. Bhasmas are contend to produce nanoparticles which are prescribed with other ayurvedic medicines. There are various types of bhasmas i.e metallic and mineral, used with various herbal juices and fruits. Current work aims to generate the all required and important information about bhasmas including their types, method of preparation and some of its reported preclinical testing and theraputic utility. Systamatic review of available literature through official books of ayurveda and other sources indicated that bhasmas are unique ayurvedic preparations used as effective log term theraputic drugs in chronic ailments and its potency influenced by number of factor related with its manufacturing. On the basis of review of litrature, it is concluded that ayurvedic bhasmas (calcinated ash) as medicine have theraputic efficacy greater than other ayurvedic formulations. Bhasmas don’t get metabolised in body, hence exhibiting negligible toxicity.
